Another somewhat “obscure” favourite actor of mine, Robin Laing. (so I don’t expect anyone to know who the hell he is – just humour me! )
I first saw him in an episode of the UK series ‘Murder City’, which admittedly I wanted to watch for Kris Marshall, but the final episode of series 2 featured this quirky little character by the name of Nathan Wallis, played by Robin, who ended up capturing my interest quite a lot due to his troubled, autistic ways.
After seeing Robin’s great performance in ‘Murder City’ I went on to check out some of the other things he’d been in, which included the late 90s drama series ‘The Lakes’ – also featuring John Simm (yeah, the other reason I wanted to watch it ). In this Robin played another quirky character known simply as “Joey” who always spoke, for some unexplained reason, in the third person.
He was also in the “pilot/first” episode of the great series ‘Murder Rooms’, aka ‘The Dark Beginnings of Sherlock Holmes’, in which he played Arthur Conan Doyle (to Ian Richardson’s Dr Joseph Bell, Doyle’s inspiration for the character of Sherlock Holmes). I quite liked his performance in this but unfortunately he was replaced by another actor after the pilot episode so he didn’t get to do anymore.
Something else he was in, and that I haven’t seen, was ‘Band of Brothers’, portraying Edward “Babe” Heffron. Some of you might have seen that series so you may or may not remember him from it. I can’t really judge his performance since I haven’t seen it myself. Maybe I will one day, but war isn’t really my genre of choice when it comes to TV/film viewing. *shrug*
