At the moment I am 3/4 of the way through 'Club Dead' by Charlaine Harris. It's another Sookie Stackhouse Vampire mystery...I've read another in the series ('Living Dead in Dallas' I think).
It's craaaaaap, but fun crap. Similar to the Anita Blake books, but Sookie (the main character) is not as 'slayer' like...she's just a waitress with telepath powers who happens to be dating a vampire, so gets caught up in some crazy stuff.

"An Authentic Life - finding meaning and spirituality in everyday life" by Caroline Jones
I'm a third of the way through, and I love Caroline's writing style - very moving and descriptive.
The thing I'm getting out of this book so far is that participating in things that bring me pleasure (connecting with friends, enjoying art etc) is not a self-indulgent thing - it's the food that nurtures the soul.

I'm nearly half way through "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" by Susanna Clarke. Jesus, it's a hefty book at over 1000 pages but I am enjoying it. It's not a big pageturner though. I just read it in little bits and that seems enough. It has a very nice plodding style that suits me. Like my life really!

I've picked that one up in bookshops many times, and put it back cos I got frightened by it's size! (Must ask...is it slashy?) I recently bought Cary Grant's biography - I'm looking forward to reading it, I love biographies. (And I love Cary Grant!)

Not really, although with my twisted little mind I do find myself thinking of several characters in that way, but that is really quite wrong!! I wonder if it will get slashier by the end?

In between a mountain of self-help books, I'm reading My Life As Me, by Barry Humphries. I read his autobiography More, Please, a few years ago and devoured it, and I'm equally enjoying this companion memoir. I particularly love the way he describes Melbourne in the 40's/50's, and his stories about his mother, to whom he was a constant disappointment

He's a joy to read, truly. I've never been to any of his live shows, because I am a little afraid of some of his characters, and how cruel they can be... I feel safer watching them on the TV ! I do like dangerous comedy, but Dame Edna and Les Patterson are so much more frightening than any contempory cutting edge performers!

Have you seen his character Sandy Stone? He's an elderly man, very gentle, who talks in a whisper of a voice. He is the antithesis of Edna and Les. I think in the latest shows, Sandy is now a ghost.
When you come to Australia, we'll go on a pilgrimmage to Moonee Ponds ;D
