Wish I was going on 4.
I look forward to the time you might feel like sharing the story Annette.
Would it take too long to explain how or why they regenerate? I saw the Doctor blow on some power unit in the tardis to recharge it and he said that he gave 10 yeas off his life to do so and that just has me curious. That was this past week. The first part of the story where Rose sees her father in a parallel London.
Fell asleep with my glasses on my chest last night while reading and now I can't find them. I've done that many times and they're usually where I left them when I wake up. You'd think they wouldn't go that far but my eyes are straining to read this so I'd better go. Hopefully I will find them soon.

I shall do my best to explain how it works, as a non-crazy-fan Basically the Doctor is an "alien", a Time Lord from a planet called Gallifrey. Time Lords have the power to travel through time (hence their name). They also have two hearts. When they die they have the ability to "re-generate", which is why they can live for so long, and why their appearance changes each time. Of course it can only work within reason. If they died by being decapitated or something extreme like that they wouldn't be able to come back from it. Which is why, when DT Doctor has his hand cut off and it re-grows, there's a bit of ... well. Basically my understanding is that wouldn't be happening in the Classic series. It seems to be something Russell T Davis has decided to add in himself even though it doesn't fit in with how the original Doctor Who works. Which is another reason why my b/f absolutely HATES the new stuff - he's a Classic Whovian purist Continuity and "canon" seems to have been thrown out of the window in this new series. Now I don't mind a few changes here and there, but to alter the course of the shows history, well. I can see why he's pissed off about it to be honest. But that's another topic altogether This might be more helpful: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_who#The_Doctor

Thankfully I found my glasses. I had to get the spare set from my mother's house and I hate that pair. It wasn't until my son put on cartoons during the late afternoon and I sat back in the recliner to relax that I realized I had spent all day searching a closed chair when it was open and pushed all the way back when I fell asleep. Reached down into a spot that isn't there when it's closed and there they were. Luckily they fell into a groove and weren't crushed when I sat up straight. Anyway, thanks for the explaination Claire. And the link. There goes another good while before I turn off and get my son's clothes ready for morning. Good thing he's wearing sweats. BTW, don't know if anyone's heard but they're thinking of making a movie. Seems it depends on whether or not DT wants to do another season of the show after he's done playing Hamlet on stage. They think he does. Then they would have to write a script and get everything planned. I found that tidbit on an English news/gossip site the other day. I can understand your b/f feeling like that over the continuity. I feel the same over old favorites when somebody changes something. Can't blame him. Maybe the producers and writers realize that fans of the original series won't like this one as much and are just trying for new, probably younger viewers who don't know any better. And younger viewers would definitely find things like losing and regrowing a hand cool. I certainly didn't know that the Dr. couldn't do that in the other versions. Off for a quick Doctor Who history lesson. If I had self control, I would just go there and mark it as a favorite and read it another time since it's 11:30pm here but I don't so I will probably be sorry tomorrow morning. OK, it's about 1am now. Interesting history lesson. But now my brains are scrambled plot wise. We're a season behind here and Wikipedia makes a lot of references to the new season. But from what I just read, I could have been watching the newer episodes on the SciFi channel 3 months ago. I must go and check the cable guide and see if they're still showing it. Since they tell so much there, there's no need for me to worry about ever trying to see Secret Smile. They tell the whole story from beginning to end there. All those links, I could stay there all night. BTW Annette, Claire isn't making any words up. Whovian really is what hard core fans are called. Wikipedia compares it to Trekkie. Guess Whokie wasn't as appealing. They said that the press uses the term when referring to fans. Jeez, I'm just noticing the smilies on top of the message since I'm modifying this post. I usually just use the quick post. I forgot they were there. Before I make myself turn this thing off and get some rest before walking miles through a pumpkin patch with my son on a school outing in the morning, I must ask a question. Am I the only one who didn't realize that Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who? I hope not.

Hope you enjoyed that history lesson I only know so much about things because my b/f has told me, hehe Oh and I should have warned you about spoilers for the following series, sorry about that. I was totally spoilt by it anyway because my friends in the UK had already seen it before it screened here But it helps to know what happens in the next series anyway, because that's the one that runs alongside Torchwood. And er yeah I knew it was an anagram... LOL! But don't feel bad about it, there were other people who didn't realise A movie eh, I've heard of the possibility... I know my b/f will positively loathe that Because he's had ideas for a movie himself for years, hehehe.

I did enjoy it. Not to worry about the spoilers. They don't bother me. What did tick me off was went I went to the SciFi site. I found the Doctor Who page and according to it, they're up to episode 9 which is supposed to air at 9pm on fridays. They even had a description of the show. I was so happy to see that. But it wasn't listed in their schedule. I double checked on my cable box schedule and it's the same as theirs. Something is strange though. Instead of Dr. Who, they have something else listed at 9pm and that show repeats at 11pm. That channel doesn't repeat that fast so I'm wondering if there's a specific reason why they're not showing it. Some stations do have exclusive rights to certain shows but I can't see why that would affect this show since they're on a different season from BBC. All I know is that I'm very disappointed. And of course I forgot to check the channel at 9pm to make sure that the schedule was correct. I'm glad that I wasn't the only one to not realize that it was ananagram. Sorry they stole your boyfriend's idea for a movie. The only good thing about searching the box schedule for Doctor Who was that I found out that the latest Highlander movie will repeat Saturday afternoon on SciFi. Last night was the first that I had even heard that SciFi had aired it. My nephew knows that I am a Highlander fanatic and got me a copy of the last movie that was released in Russia but the ending left me confused. He told me that it wasn't that great but he was assuming that it would go straight to DVD here. The producers evidently read the Highlander site and saw all the negative comments (the comments were pretty rough on the movie) and claimed that the version released in parts of Europe was "unfinished" and decided to change the ending. It was never released in theatres here. Yes, it was that lousy. They even changed the music. Well, not the music. They used Queen's music but had someone else singing it. I think they lost their minds. SciFi ran it as a TV movie in mid September. I had no idea. At least now I can see the new ending and see if it makes any more sense than the original ending.

Annoying that the station doesn't seem to be showing it I hate it when shows are just taken off or moved to a different timeslot without reason or warning *shakes head*

They gave no reason as to why they took it off. It's not even on at a different time. It's just gone. I'm just wondering why they still advertise it on their Doctor Who page. Season 3 (why does everyone else call each season a series? Makes me think it's a new show) goes on sale as a DVD box set on November 3rd so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with their taking it off.

I think they call them "series" in the UK because there are less episodes (usually around 6-8 or in some cases 10, depends really) - whereas in the US they have "seasons" which usually last to about 22 episodes. Seems strange to take it off because of a DVD release though - here they seem to have a thing for releasing DVDs before the series run has ended but still screen the rest on TV as well - which is kind of pointless but I guess not everyone rushes out to buy the DVD when it's out

Doctor Who seems to have about 13 episodes from what I can see. For us, that's about half a season or what's sometimes known as a "mid-season replacement" if a particular show stinks and has to be taken off the air. A full one usually has around 24-25. To me a series means the whole show. Each series has a new season when it gets reordered for another year. That's what gets me confused. To me, a series is a whole new show, not a continuation of an old one.
I'm just guessing as to why it isn't on anymore, especially since their page has up to date shows listed. I really can't figure out why they did it.
