Returns to Aussie TV screens! From the ABC website:
Blackpool, a six-part musical murder mystery that has won a swag of awards overseas begins on ABC TV on Wednesday, November 30 at 8.30pm. It follows the rise and fall of local arcade owner Ripley Holden (David Morrissey) and while the edgy crime narrative takes in greed, love and relationships along the way, there's a twist. The drama is intertwined with 25 well-known songs from Elvis Presley's "Viva Las Vegas" to Elvis Costello's "Brilliant Mistake" and The Faces' "Ooh La La".
Local entrepreneur Ripley Holden, a brash, charismatic family man, holds a lavish opening for his new showpiece arcade in his beloved home town of Blackpool. However, Ripley's fortunes take a turn for the worse when he discovers the dead body of a young man on the premises. Keen to get the case cleared up, Ripley co-operates with the investigating police officer, DI Peter Carlisle (David Tennant). But Carlisle takes a dislike to Ripley, which makes him all the more determined to prove the businessman is the culprit.
Family problems add to Ripley's headache; his young son, Danny (Thomas Morrison), is seemingly hiding something and his 20-year-old daughter, Shyanne (Georgia Taylor), brings home an unsuitable new boyfriend - a man Ripley was at school with. Ripley instructs Shyanne's partner to end the relationship and Shyanne is left heartbroken. Then to cap it all, Carlisle takes a shine to Natalie (Sarah Parish), Ripley's wife and Natalie reciprocates.
