It's hard to say, really...
I think people feel more strongly when they dearly love an original version of something, and then a remake is done that changes a lot of things, or cheapens it, so that the original loses it's shine. Also, if a "newcomer" sees the remake first, they're unlikely to think the original is any good...
I think it really depends on a person's preferences and how much "respect" the original gets in the remake *shrug*

Excellent reply - I esp. like the part about respecting the original.
(A fave film of mine - Beautiful Thing - is going to be remade/Americanised, but I actually have a good feeling that it will be handled with a great deal of respect and affection for the original.)
Any thoughts on the latest King Kong then?

Hmm... King Kong... I saw the trailer on the big screen. It'll win Peter Jackson more acclaim, I would imagine, but to be perfectly honest, it's not something I would want to see. The original obviously lacked on the kinds of special effects this new version has, but is that all people are concerned with nowadays? I know visual effects can be amazing (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc...) but if there isn't a decent plot to go with them, or actors who have great screen presence and chemistry, then it would feel empty... Or maybe I just can't stand Jack Black and it's curbing my views Either way... It'll bring in the LoTR fans I would think, and fans of Jackson. Fans of the original movie, however? That, I suppose, remains to be seen... (To be honest my interest in it isn't very high, so I don't know what critics have said about it, or what people who loved the original might have said...)

The Pink Panther......... Why bother? Kevin Kline would have been better in the role........ He looks more the part! Plus he's a better actor - not washed up

I won't be bothering with it. I love early Steve Martin movies, and I love Clouseau, but I just...can't watch this.

I've seen trailers... it is cringe-worthy... I used to like Steve Martin too, but his latest stuff leaves a bit to be desired. Or maybe my tastes have just changed too much to like it anymore? LOL! Give me UK made movies any day

Footloose!!!!!!! Now that's a good cheesy 80's movie... Crappy plot, good dance music. Oh God, but a remake would probably have hip hop music and everybody would be freak dancing... Would it be bad if I mention that there is a Broadway play based on Xanadu.
