Has anybody else seen this? I really liked it, although I haven't read the book or seen the tv series, so I had no idea what was going on Alan Rickman was wonderful though, and I love Sam Rockwell, he is absolutely hilarious ;D! What I want to know is, has anyone read the book and does the movie live up to it?

I started reading the book but it was hard to get into so I didn't finish it To be honest I'm not totally interested in going to the cinema to see the movie... (too expensive and I haven't got the time, really)... But I'll probably check it out on DVD...

I've seen it! Not read the books but I've seen the TV series...that helped cos I knew what was going on otherwise I would've had a clue. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the ending...it was completely different to the ending in the tv series (and I presume, the book too) and I didn't like it...too much lovey-dovey stuff. Marvin was great tho ;D Can't wait for the DVD SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! He was wonderful! ;D

Yay Steve And other League-ish voices, hehe... And Alan Rickman I finally watched it on Saturday night. It was pretty cool... there were things that really annoyed me though, like the chick who played Trillion, eesh! And I kind of felt it may have been better if the main cast had all been British I dunno but the US accents really grated on me (particularly Trillion/Trish)... Oh but the music was great, hehe

I hated Trillian too...but she was played by an american in the TV series, so that's not what bothers me...just dun like her! And I gotta say I really hated the ending! I have to say, on a whole, I much prefer the original TV series, and I much, much prefer the books! But that's just because I'm old...

Hah well the original is often the best It all seemed a bit rushed to me, towards the end... And what happened with that gun they had to get? Or will there be a sequel for that?

Yes, well, it's another one of those thjings linked to happy childhood memories for me, so I guess I'm a little subjective about it. There were parts of the movie that I did like...none spring to mind at the moment tho ...been a while since I saw it, but didn't they use the gun on someone? Zaphod? That whole gun thing wasn't in the book or TV series.

The gun to make people see your point of view... Yeah... Some other guy wanted them to get the gun for him, and they found it, and that's what Marvin used on the Vogons to stop them in the end... I understand what you mean about the childhood memories about things, etc... I'm like that with numerous things as well. Heh talk to my b/f about that stuff too Like the new Herbie movie (he won't see it on principle) just to name one...

What is it with all the remakes? I mean, surely there are enough starving writers in the world to make some new movies!

One would think so There just don't seem to be any totally original movies being made at the moment, though. It's either a remake of an old TV show, a remake of an old film, a movie adaption of a book, a sequel, or a prequel... I mean some things I don't really mind as much (eg. Harry Potter, LOL!) But there are other things that just should be left alone... or perhaps looked at by people who know what they're doing

Yeah, well said Sailor. Sometimes remakes work, but boy, they have to be pretty special. I wanted to adore HHGTTG, and I loved the first half or so, but... *whimper*. I dunno. I have read that the late Douglas Adams was actually responsible for a lot of the new stuff/changes, including the Big Gratuitious Love story Martin Freeman can do no wrong, so no probs there. I was pleasantly surprised by Mos Def, and I didn't mind Zooey Deschanel (?sp). Marvin was...ugh. He wasn't my Marvin!!! Also, shouldn't Alan Rickman be becoming slightly concerned about typecasting these days? Loved that Bill Bailey was the whale, and that Stephen Fry was the narrator. I'm always pleased by the presence of Bill Nighy, although I think a lot of the Slartibartfast jokes were a bit...underplayed? I haven't seen it since it's cinema release, so forgive me if some of my impressions are a bit hazy

Hah yeah, I liked Bill Nighy too, and Bill Bailey as the whale Stephen Fry was good as well... I kinda liked Marvin, then again I like Alan so that's probably a heavy influence And the "original" Marvin had a little cameo spot in the film as well, hehe... And Martin Freeman was really good - I just didn't like Trillian, gah! Irksome to the max My b/f and I reckon Julian Rhind Tutt should have played Ford, hehe! He just has that cool witty charm about him Either him or Danny John-Jules: "Oooooooooow heeeeeeeeeey!"
