Jumped on the bandwagon a bit late, but I've recently finished watching the first series (the books are way too big and there's too many of them). Has anyone else watched it? I was avoiding it cos of all the hype but decided to give it a go. I ended up really enjoying it, despite it being rather gratuitous. There's some brilliant characters in it! I started watching series 2 last night

I haven't seen any of it myself, I think I've been a bit like you in avoiding it because of the hype But who knows, I might check it out one day

I watched season 1 when it came out on DVD (I rented it...). I didn't know it was popular. I loved it. I can't wait for season 2 to come out on DVD. It's funny because sometimes, our favorite books/movies/shows/music end up being something we didn't want to read/watch/listen to because of the hype. 1) I remember I didn't want to watch Lord of the Rings because of the hype. I thought it would be boring. I watched the first movie anyway and I ended up loving it. The Lord of the Rings movies are now some of my favorite movies of all time. 2) The same thing happened to me with Twilight. I didn't want to see the first movie because of the hype but at the same time, I was curious. I wanted to know how it could be so popular so I watched it. I ended up loving it. - The Twilight books are my favorite books ever. - The Twilight movies are my favorite movies ever. - The Bella/Edward pairing is my favorite pairing ever. 3) To a smaller extent, the same thing happened with Harry Potter. My mother bought me the second book for Christmas (She probably thought it was the first book...). She told me those books were popular. I thought it sounded like it was a book for children and that I wouldn't like it so I didn't read it... A few weeks later, I was bored so I decided to give it a try. I loved it. I have to say that I'm not into Harry Potter as much as I used to be. I can't stand the Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny pairings. I read the books again a few months ago and I have to say that my hate for those pairings is still there.

It does feel a bit silly when you avoid something because of hype then it ends up being awesome. I loved the second series of the show, and because I couldn't wait for the third series I started reading the books! I'm up to book 5 now. Pretty much nothing has happened in any of them but I'm still reading them, I can do dull ;D
My fave characters are Tyrion and Arya...I also love Daenerys - she's so goooorgeous!
I just hope George Martin releases the next book soon! Not read anything about it in case I spoil the 5th one.
