Love him? Hate him? Love to hate him? Hate to love him? ... yeah I'll stop there 
Camelot's ruthless king, admired and feared by many, and loathed by many more (mostly of the magical variety).
It seems he is completely heartless, but whenever Arthur or Morgana are in trouble, he shows his true self and either crumbles or becomes even more stubborn and angry than ever. He's had a tragic life, really, losing his wife in order to have a son - and it was all caused by magic, such is why he hates any sort of sorcery with every fibre of his being and seems unable to understand that not everyone uses magic for evil deeds (ie. Merlin and most of the Druids).
So... what else can we say about Uther? Though it may not seem to be the case on the surface, I actually think he's a deeply complex character. He's only filled with hate because of his past. Perhaps if Igraine hadn't died giving birth to Arthur, and the three of them had been able to live happily together, his outlook on life would be completely different and magical people/beings wouldn't have to be outcasts, living in fear for their lives or with vengeance against Uther in their hearts.
But hey, where would we be for drama if everyone was happy all the time?
