I always thought it was interesting how little they changed Ami and Rei's name when they dubbed it. I mean why trash Setsuna and Makoto and leave Rei and Ami almost untouched?

Coz they're stoo-pid LOL I dunno... How does the name "Trista" relate to "Setsuna"? Michiru is closer to Michelle... but Amara/Haruka? Mina/Minako - but Lita/Makato? Oh well, they kept Hotaru's name the same, so that's ok...

Welll when they dubbed it they were intending it for a younger audience so they wanted names that kids could pronounce easily and relate to. Ami (pronounced: Ah-mee) for instance is very close to the name Amy, which is an easy name. Therefore they didn't have to change it. Rei's name is a japanese name and an english name. In english though, it's spelled Ray (for a guy) or Raye (for a girl). They just changed it so it's spelled phonetically. Minako's name change is same as Ami. Mina is easier for kids to remember. (Same for Michiru too) I don't know how they got Lita and Amara out of Haruka and Makoto though. I guess they just came up with their own names. (Like in the french dub, Usagi's name is Anne.) Rini's name makes more sense. Her mother's name is Serenity. Therefore, SeRENItiy. They just changed the E to an I.
