What are your thoughts on this...? news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7050348.stmNot sure I care much for that cast list. Even though there is one name I like (as in the man himself, just not sure he's exactly right for the role)... Why can't they stop FFS? Stop with the prequels!

oh dear!! So its true? i read something about Simon Pegg be chatted up for a new Star Trek movie . . .just thought it was a wind up. Not sure how im going to feel about this! It took me quite a few episodes to really get into DS9 and Voyager, took me a whole series to really get Enterprise, so the whole 're-casting' thing is not boding well with me, (even if it is for a film) In my eyes Shatner IS Kirk, Nimoy IS Spock, Kelley IS McCoy . .. .well you get my drift!! But even i'll admit on many occassions i have been proven wrong, so all we can is just sit back, hope for the best, and take heart in the fact that Star Trek will NEVER die!! (no matter how many times people try to murder it)

I'm very much in agreement, that the original actors made those characters who they are, so I have huge reservations about different people playing them. I read that Tom Cruise was to play a young Christopher Pike as well. Oh the madness *tries not to puke* I can't understand the need for a prequel anyway. Why couldn't they set something after Nemesis? It needn't feature the TNG crew either, it could bring in a new group, but have a few cameos from the other canon characters. Maybe Picard handing the reigns over to a new Captain or something like that. LE SIGH! I laughed when I saw that Eric Bana was going to be in this though... I have to wonder if any non-Aussies have ever seen his work prior to the movies he's been in?

While I'm not one for re-casting major characters, and the thought of Tom Cruise is enough to make me seriously consider boycotting such a movie, (and I think Claire knows how srtongly Trek oriented I am) I will reserve judgment until I see some footage. (And, Eric Banna should never be allowed to grace any size screen!!!!!)

Maybe it'll flop like a pancake that falls on the floor instead of in the pan... ;D

Hmm a lot of people wouldn't agree Namely the purist original trilogy fans, heh I dunno. I just don't like this idea at all - These character have already been established, and played well by the actors... Star Trek is about "future" things - so why not do just that? Look to the future? And the worst part is - the original series had a certain feel and look to it, that was a product of it's time. Re-visiting it now when our own technology has advanced so much will seem a bit out of place. Unless - they keep the "campness", they keep the uniforms, they keep the original technology... but does anyone else see that happening? No I say, a thousand times no! What they should do, is bypass TNG, and get a new crew in - maybe have some cameos from the TNG lot though, like Picard handing over the reigns to some "rising young star", and maybe asking Riker for advice on something at some point. Even a brief B4 moment were he's going through the academy to be like his "brother" Data. Then carry on with the all new crew, an all new ship, all new and upgraded technology, etc... Wow I didn't realise how passionate I was about this stuff...
