Well, we've all seen it now so the question does need to be answered! Should they have made the film? Was it worth going to see? And did you like it?

It's a good question really. It's like the Stella Street movie, which I did like, but think it could have been done differently, or ... not at all... Of course the LoG movie holds nothing in comparison to the series, in my opinion anyway. Maybe doing a longer version makes it harder to "work", I'm not sure... Although it did for the Xmas Special, but it was a different format. So... I liked the movie, I think I just need to watch it a few more times. I think a lot of good characters were under-used, but the grouping of Hilary, Geoff and Herr Lipp was interesting. Worth it...? Yes... However... Like I said in the other thread, there were some things I thought could have been done a bit better (Simon Pegg should have been in it more  )... Did that make sense? LOL! |

I'm thrilled that it was made, because I think the Gents have pretty high standards in what they create, so I don't think they'd ever (touch wood!) produce something that was crap. (*coughGuestHouseParadisocough*) I have an idle thought about whether it would have worked even better as a series in itself. This might just be me wanting more, of course, but I'd love to see more of the Gents as their 'self' characters, as well as more of Dr Pea and the Evil plotters, and Victoria Wood, and of course an opportunity for more of the regular Royston Vasey characters to make an appearance. I hope they make more movies - a really dark, gothic, comedy/horror movie would be something I'd LOVE to see from them! Some romance between their own characters would not astray either...  |

What I would have liked out of this movie was more Royston Vasey character interaction in London, particularly from Tubbs - I mean, come on! She was finally able to be in "Lun-dun!" She'd have to get up to something there. I can imagine she'd be off looking at all the sights and sounds, with Edward trying to find her and take her back because he's too freaked out to be there, LOL! But anyway Maybe I'm just being a bit too picky, I dunno... As long as they were happy with it, I guess |

yes, defo worth it. very different to the series, definitely, but brilliant in its own way.

I just watched it again, with the commentary, and I have to say I enjoyed it a lot more the 2nd time 'round. Yeee Geoff and Hilary, hehe! I still wish there could have been a bit more of Papa Lazarou, Tubbs and Edward though |

I think its just brilliant. The way its all tied together and how it ends and that. Still one bit that annoys me slightly is "Jez" taking the drugs in the bathroom. Just annoys me a little bit

Why does it annoy you? Because it doesnt seem like something jex would do, or it doesn't fit with the movie, or like the gents are trying to appear "cool" or something? Just curious (as i havent seen it yet and am interested in what you saying!  |

Ok i thought i'd write it tonight as adam went to bed early and im all alone *sniff*
Amy's review of The League of Gentlemen's Apocalypse.
To make it more like the movies i turned off all the lights and ate my tea in the dark.
I have to admit, when the Universal Logo started turning around I cried a little. I was just so excited to see it that i got a little over emotional.
The start was great, with the music that turned into Jeremy's phone ring. I loved all the little bits in his house, the posters and figurines, loved that they make their homes filled with League paraphanalia. As I had seen the little snippet of the film on the website I knew he'd find tubbs. I thought Edward went harcore after him, very frightening! haha I loved the whole rings round the eyes from the binoculars, very cute, and got a deservedly eye roll.
I loved how they used the characters coming into the real world. I thought it was such a clever use, to be able to see the Royston Vasey locals, but to have them in a different setting, seeing the other side to them. The Herr Lipp story was very beautiful, funny and moving. I loved the part where he sings the german lullaby to his "daughter" So understated yet carried so much meaning in that scene. Steve played it extrmely well (lets just skip the whole my bag is full scene EH?!) The 16th century story was marvellous. Great use of props and fantastic performances by Bernard Hill, Victoria Wood, David Warner and simon peggs bum and obviously Mark was in his element here as Sir Nicholas Sheet Lightning. He looks beautiful as well (minus the face scarring...but those EYES!)
I have to say though, that my favourite character in the movie was Geoff. Reece played him to absolute perfection, getting ever nuance, expression and stance that geoff uses and amping them up to 12. I laughed everytime geoff was on screen, and felt that they really flshed him out into a full fledged person. Hilary was frightening, and scared me quite a bit (the fact that he kept threatening Steve may have something to do with it) The end scenes with the 'end of the earth' happening in Royston Vasey was well done and a good climax. But i did feel a little down, but they may have been that i knew it was the end of the film, rather then any wrongdoing in the movie itself. As with every movie there are always things you wish they'd done more of a bit differently, and with this film its no different. For starters i'd want it to run for another hour and a half if i could...haha Also one part I thought could have been included, was to see the "real" reece and mark in their natural habitat more. A maybe catching glimpses of the characters but shaking it off, blaming it on tiredness etc. But whats done is done and it was brilliant.
I feel sad that its all over now!!! hahaha

I am so pleased that you liked it!! ;D You little review of it basically sums up everything I thought as well. Geoff was the best, but I really do think that Herr Lipp's story was the most affecting in the film and really made me feel for him. Excellent Amy! Now how many times will you watch it over the weekend!! |
