It's a real time-capsule piece that book/movie. Pretty accurate account of the time LOL...I went to a museum in WA and they had a Sandman panel van on display. Modified to add: TOPIC - I like how they portrayed Casanova as something a bit more interesting than a legendary root-rat. The line about if they had just been conquests, they would have been forgotten, but he remembered every one of them. *romantic sigh*

It's out on DVD here this week, but there doesn't appear to be any extras whatsoever (nor on the British edition). Poop. Would have loved a Russell T Davies commentary or sommit.
(Cos that's the point of DVDs. To have extras.)

O M F G. Can i love David Tennant anymore. What a cheeky sod!!!! Tonight was brillant, hilariously funny, slightly disturbing and SAD! *sniff* I felt so angry with little casanova. How could he turn out to be so different to his father? To see the world through completely different eyes, even though the motions were the same....eeeesh! Did anyone else think when they went into the parlor in Naples 'VESUVIUS CLUB!' hahaha It was soooooooo the Vesuvius Club! hehehe But my favourite bit was when he was talking to whathisface (henriettes husband) and he goes 'you are just dying to kiss me' LOVED IT! And how the english guy so thought the english were kicking it 'Lady Asquith is drinking her tea...with LEMON' Oh you must think we're positively giddy in here! And THE COSTUMES (though perhaps not exactly tradional eheheh) Makes me yeeeearn to dress as gentleman. I want the DVD! popoo to no extras!

O M F G. Can i love David Tennant anymore. What a cheeky sod!!!! He makes my heart sing!!! Ooh gawd...the duel scene, when they ripped their shirts open to 'show themselves' ROCCO!! *clutches heart* dear, sweet, funny, wonderful, gorgeous Rocco! I had an Austin Powers moment ( ) with the adult Casanova jnr - like SCAR ON LIP, SCAAAAAAAAAR, (hehehe hair lip) I couldn't take my eyes off it. But yeah, what a cold little sod he was. *BOUNCES* TOTALLY!!!!! That's exactly what I thought!!! I loved how the people there were punkish. (The movie Plunkett and Maclean tried for this a few years back, with the anachronistic dialogue and music and costume design, but didn't succeed as much as this production did.) I'm sure you would have heard me squeal/laughing from your place!!! Did you not hear me? I laughed my bum off! They thought they were soooo naughty! I loved the dig at modern Britain's obsession with people who are famous for being famous! Oh me too! I loved "the Vesuvius Club" clothes too! I'm getting it, even though I'm still sulking about no extras. If there was a soundtrack I'd be sorely tempted to get it too, although I'm sure I'd tear up every time the Henriette themed played. I loved it when Casanova showed up everywhere Grimani turned up, and almost peed my pants laughing when he was nearly sitting on the King's knee... 'Grimani, have you met my friend George?' Oh god, so wonderful.

I cried too - the ending was just right. I don't know if I'll watch the new Heath Ledger movie of Casanova. I love this telling of the story so very, very much. I can't imagine anyone being as gorgeous and as charming and as cheeky as David Tennant.

He's lovely! I was thinking about it all day... and I still tear up a bit thinking of Henriette floating away from Casanova on the boat, doing their gorgeous sign language to each other.
*romantic sigh*

Very ebarrassed to say, I completely forgot that I had taped this...until today. Cried like a baby at the end. You know that means they did a damn good job and I got emotionally involved in the story. Funny thng is, I was reading The Vesuvius Club earlier, and have just got to the part where Lucifer goes to the VC...then I watch this, and there it is! Naples, Mt Vesuvius, dirty sex...I actually found that whole part very disturbing and sad. I want moooooore...more TV like this.

*vigorous nodding* Wasn't it skillful the way they showed the difference between joyful lusty romping (Casanova) and lust for the sake of it (Casanova jnr) ? I see the DVD is out on region 4 now.
