Dear Steve,
Hello sweets! Thanks for actually reading this letter, I have put a lot of thought (and a fair amount of ESP) into it and to try and make my plea to you as serious and thoughtful as I can. You see, I have heard a million and one wonderful things about TLOGABY tour, and of course being a major fan of The League of Gentlemen I would give anything to see you tour (I want to see Pauline’s pretty dress!)
Well, the big problem with this is I live in Australia, which is very very far away from the rest of civilisation. So in writing this letter I’m hoping to persuade you, or at least explain to you how beneficial and wonderful it would be for TLOG (and well, yes for me and your other fans here) if you decided to come over and do a tour here.
Heres just a few of the millions of reasons why your Australian Tour would totally rock and be really successful and fun.
1. We love international guests in our country, and although TLOG are not as widely known as in the UK, your DVD’s are sold in lots of shops, we have a release date for your movie (even though I already bought it from Amazon UK…I couldn’t wait!, and btw, it was magnificent Your portrayal as Herr Lipp was so heartbreaking and funny at the same time, I laughed through tears many times!) and the movie got 4 stars in our local Empire magazine, series 3 of TLOG is being shown on UKTV in December and (though this is just for you really, and I for one can’t wait) Blackpool starts on the ABC on Nov 30th. Basically, you may not be big stars, but your presence is well known and you do have a lot of fans who would love for you to tour and would come and see you definitely.
2. Bill Bailey, Ross Noble and The Goodies have all toured this year really successfully, and I think the type of show you gents do would be PERFECT for Australian audiences! We love a bit of filth (especially when its wrapped up in perfect comedy)
3. We have so many venues and two great comedy festivals that can give you automatic promotion and crowds to attend your shows. Our comedy festivals are so much fun and you will be guaranteed a sell out crowd every night!
4. We are a cheap society with our Dollar extremely accommodating to the Pound which would cut down costs and expenses immensely!
5. You already have a absolutely fantastic live show (well two if you count Drury Lane, which is another amazing show I’ve got on DVD) and we are all virgins to your live show material, you can do anything, you don’t even have to think of new material!
6. Australia is a natural destination for the Poms, come and tour for a few weeks then have a holiday!
7. Ok this is the most serious one. I adore The League of Gentlemen, you have made every other comedy less funny, our comedians and actors less talented and given me a million quotes and every day experiences are changed now I’ve been exposed to TLOG (for example we have water sold in our shops here called Aqua Vita and I laugh every time I see it hahah) And I would so love to be able to see you all perform together in case the unthinkable happens and you go Monty Python on me!
Please don’t dismiss this letter as some crazy fan begging you to come to her country. All I ask is if you could give a tour here some serious thought. If you don’t feel it’s a viable option or there is no time for a small tour, I understand, I just wanted to let you know that there is a small but very passionate Australian fan base for the league and we would be over the moon if you decided on touring.
Lastly I just wanted to say on a personal note, that I think you are a brilliant actor and the funniest man in the world. I hope that you continue to act and write for years to come and know you will always have my attention, adoration and respect. Enjoy the rest of the tour and have a lovely Christmas and New Years. Good luck with your future projects!
Lots of Love
Amy Williams
